Public Health professor offers Charleston community solutions to teen substance abuse

Dr. Alfgeir Kristjansson, an assistant professor in the WVU School of Public Health, will lead three community sessions in Kanawha County on Monday, Feb. 26, focused on evidence-based, effective solutions to curbing teen substance abuse. Krisjansson will discuss his efforts that virtually eliminated teenage drug, alcohol, and tobacco use in his home country of Iceland.  His work emphasizes the importance of proactive collaboration, rather than reactive intervention, and recognizes the essential need for teens to feel valued and productive members of their community, rather than a burden to it.
