Support group for WVU students who are parents to begin bi-weekly meetings

Update (3/27/23): Due to lack of participation, the Student Parent Support Space has been discontinued for the remainder of the spring semester.

Parenting can be challenging, and it can be uniquely difficult to navigate your role as a parent and student while enrolled in college. To provide support and an opportunity to connect with others who understand this balance, WVU's Carruth Center and the BeWell satellite office are offering a Student Parent Support Space every other Monday from noon to 1 p.m. in The Market Pod 2 (room G-288D) on the Health Sciences Campus beginning Jan. 23.

Open to all WVU students with children ages 6 and under, the bi-weekly meetings will be held throughout the remainder of the spring semester, taking place Jan. 23, Feb. 6 and 20, March 6 and 20, and April 3 and 17. Registration is suggested; drop-ins welcome. Individuals may bring lunch.

The goal of the support space is to Send Help! to participants as they connect, learn and share resources related to balancing the roles of a parent and a student.

Layne Hitchcock, a behavioral health clinician who has two children, will lead the group with Spring Szoka, a non-traditional doctoral student with two toddlers.

Students who attend four sessions will be entered into a drawing for trampoline park passes.

For more information, contact Layne Hitchcock or Spring Szoka.
