Senior DDS student presents research at national level

Congratulations to Wijdan Dabeek

West Virginia University is classified as an R1 institution according to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. A focus on research intensified in 2016 when WVU was first given the distinction. The R1 designation is very difficult to earn, but it’s also a class of program that students and professionals will work very hard to be a part of.

That includes students with the School of Dentistry.

Wijdan DabeekFourth-year DDS student Wijdan Dabeek, of Morgantown, was the dental school’s 2022 winner in the Student Competition for Advancing Dental Research. As part of that accomplishment, Dentsply Sirona awarded her registration and a trip to Portland, OR, for the American Dental Association of Dental and Oral and Craniofacial Research annual meeting.

Dabeek presented Temporomandibular joint disorder in obstructive sleep apnea patients. She competed among all other dental school representatives.

The dental school is proud of her accomplishment in mid-March. On April 13, the research department will host the 2023 competition. The winner of that competition will attend the 2024 AADOCR meeting in New Orleans.
