iOS update 17.4.1 to WVU Medicine owned iPads/iPhones on April 4

Starting Wednesday, April 4, 2024, from midnight to 4 a.m., WVU Medicine Information Technology will begin security maintenance on all WVU Medicine owned and managed Apple devices. If you are not using the Apple iPad device, please plug the device in to a receptacle or charging station. If you are using an iPhone, please have the device connected to its charging sled (external batteries).

What do I need to do?

Departments that are closed from midnight to 4 a.m., please plug in your Apple iPad devices before leaving for the day or evening (make sure the device is powered on). For iPhone, please make sure the devices are connected to their sled (external battery) and powered on.

In clinical areas, please put some devices onto charge from midnight to 4 a.m., then rotate devices being charged each night until all devices have been updated. This will ensure you have Apple devices to use on shift while others are receiving the update. This update will only start when the device is plugged into charge. For iPad, the device must be connected to power and turned on. For iPhone, the devices need to have battery at 50% or greater and connected to their sled (external battery).

If you are actively using the device you will receive a pop-up notification from Apple asking if it is ok to update, here you have the option to install later, if later is not selected the upgrade will automatically continue without user intervention:

When: This will be a rolling update that begins April 4, 2024, at midnight continuing until all devices are complete.

Where: All enterprise hospitals and clinics on the WVU Medicine network

What devices are affected:

  • Rover Devices (Apple iPhones)
  • Telemedicine iPads (example, VIDYO, HAIKU, CANTO, EVA Carts)
  • Clinical iPads (All)
  • Facilities iPads
