Endodontist recognized as dental school distinguished alumni

Dr. Mark Byron is a 1985 graduate

Dr. Mark ByronDr. Mark Andrew Byron is a native of Pennsylvania and received his undergraduate degree in 1980 from the Pennsylvania State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Mark then entered the WVU School of Dentistry in 1981, graduating in 1985, and almost immediately went on active duty in the U.S. Navy. He served our country in the Navy for five years at the Naval Training Center and on the USS America. 

In 1990 Dr. Byron joined the faculty at the WVU School of Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Dentistry, where he also worked in the University’s Family Dental Practice.

In 1992 he decided to further his dental education by enrolling in the post-doctorate endodontic residency program at  WVU School of Dentistry. After completing his residency in 1994, Mark returned to the military and served our country for four years at Offutt Air Force Base. In 1997 Mark decided to go into private practice and initially worked as an associate in Sebring, Florida. Then, in 1999, he decided to move closer to home and opened an endodontic practice in Parkersburg, WV.

While in Parkersburg, Mark became very interested in organized dentistry and served as President of the Blennerhassett Dental Society and was on the Executive Council of the WV Dental Association. Mark also presided as President of the WV Association of Endodontists.  It was during those years that Mark again joined WVU School of Dentistry faculty in the Department of Endodontics and served as a part time Assistant Professor.

Dr. Mark ByronIn 2018 Mark returned to the faculty at the WVU School of Dentistry with the new title Director of the Endodontic Residency Program.

During his illustrious career Mark has received many awards including Fellowship in the American College of Dentists and Fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Mark currently serves as Chair of the West Virginia Section.

Because of these many accomplishments and awards over his outstanding career, Dr. Mark Byron is so deserving of the WVU School of Dentistry’s Alumni Association highest award, the Distinguished Award.
