Dentistry celebrates class reunions and welcomes former faculty for presentation

The alumni association's spring event took place Friday, April 21, 2023

The West Virginia University School of Dentistry Alumni Association welcomed a former faculty member to present an Overview of Oral Pathology at the Dr. Clarence C. and Maxine Davis Endowed Lecture on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Dr. Ashley ClarkDr. Ashley Clark is a board-certified oral pathologist currently serving as the Vice President of CAMP Laboratory in Indianapolis, Indiana after a nearly decade-long career in academia (including at West Virginia University). She is on the Professional Board for Oral Cancer Cause and Digital Dental Notes. Dr. Clark has won several teaching awards, has provided over 100 continuing education courses, and has authored more than 40 publications and book chapters.

The spring 2023 alumni weekend included Dr. Clark's continuing education course, recognition of members of the classes including 1963, 1968 and 1973 and an evening dinner and dance reception.

Distinguished alumni awards were given to Drs. John Wilfong, Susan Morgan, Mark Byron and hygieniest Karen Avey. Long-time dental school employee Karen Soccorsi received the alumni achievement award.

Dr. Michael Hazey III, a 2003 gradauate of the doctor of dental surgery program, was installed as the alumni association president and will begin his role in July. In his inaugural message as the alumni assocation president, Dr. Hazey wrote, "As our Mission Statement says: ”Uniting and Supporting WVU School of Dentistry Alumni and Students by Creating Lifelong Connections”, cannot be done without the support of our alumni. So THANK YOU, and I look forward to seeing you in the coming year."
