Dental school faculty share expertise in March 2023

Four WVU School of Dentistry faculty members presented at the WV Dental Hygienists’ Association’s March 25 continuing learning session.
Our presenters included Dr. Juan Bugueno, Suann Gaydos, Liz Puette and Ashlee Sowards.
Topics included information about oral cancer screenings, practical application and resources.
As a Certified Tobacco Treatment Training Program, they were also able to discuss the importance of provider roles in helping eliminate smoking and vaping.
Research
WVU School of Dentistry tobacco treatment training specialists provided research published in the Journal of Dental Education in March.
According to Melissa Suann Gaydos MSDH, NCTTP, R. Constance Wiener MA, DMD, PhD, Susan Morgan DDS, NCTTP, Elizabeth Southern Puette MSDH, CTTS, although the process may be challenging, it is imperative to train future oral health-care professionals with evidence-based tobacco treatment strategies to address the oral and systemic burden associated with TUD.
