December 2022 dental school alumni updates

West Virginia University School of Dentistry has a reputation for graduating accomplished dentists and hygienists. We love updates from our alumni. Below are highlights that have been shared with us for the December 2022 edition of enews. To share an alumni update, email sodnews@hsc.wvu.edu or kcoombs@wvuf.org.

From the office to the grid iron

Greetings to all. This is just an update from me to announce my retirement from dentistry. My effective retirement date was March 12th, 2021. I was practicing solo in Liberty, NC and practiced for 22 years. I still enjoy skiing, hunting, golfing and hanging out at the lake. For the past 2 football seasons, I have coached kickers, tight ends and special teams for our local high school, Providence Grove HS. We just finished our season and lost in the second round of the state playoffs. I also help coach men and women 110 high and 300 intermediate hurdles in the spring for the track and field team. I have maintained my dental license and DEA license and do per diem work for local dental buddies who need CE, vacation, or sickness breaks. Thank you to WVU School of Dentistry for giving me the opportunity to retire at 55 years old!!!!!

Regards,

Thomas "Chip" Butler

Volunteer of the Year

The Charleston Gazette-Mail published a story about Dr. Azita Misaghi who received the Health Right Volunteer of the Year Award. She is a "weekly volunteer at West Virginia Health Right - a free clinic serving uninsured, underinsured and medically underserved West Virginians" who lives by the verse "To whom much is given, much will be required." She accepted the award December 4 on behalf of herself and the other dentists who volunteer at the clinic.
