Cancer Cell Biology student wins poster contest

Emily Rice recently won an Outstanding Poster Presentation award at the 8th Annual RNA Symposium in Albany, N.Y., on March 17. Emily is a member of the laboratory of Dr. Ivan Martinez and student in the Cancer Cell Biology program. She was joined by a fellow graduate student, Michael Winters, who is a 3rd year Ph.D. candidate in the Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis program. Her project is about characterizing a family of long non-coding RNAs and what their role is in response to radiation therapy for lung cancer. This poster featured her work on creating a model to express these long non-coding RNAs, and some of her early work on what they might be interacting with. She hopes to publish this work within the next year to broaden the understanding of how biology can inform how patients will respond to radiation therapy.
