Bagby named dental school's associate dean of academics
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Michael Bagby, D.D.S., Ph.D., M.S., has accepted the position of associate dean of academic affairs at West Virginia University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Bagby most recently served as the interim associate dean for academic affairs, a position he assumed in January 2022. He is also a tenured, full professor and is a past interim chair of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. He maintains an active clinical practice with a primary focus in pediatric dentistry and serves as the course director for dental materials.
He, along with Marcia Gladwin Stewart, has published multiple editions of “Clinical Aspects of Dental Materials Theory, Practice and Cases,” a text widely used in dental and dental hygiene programs across the country.
Bagby has countless articles published, most on the use and results of dental applications and materials.
“Mike has served our school of dentistry with distinction for more than 30 years. He is a gifted educator, academician and recognized leader who is fully committed to our students and our patients. He excelled as the interim associate dean for academic affairs; we are extremely excited with his appointment to serve as the academic dean our school of dentistry,” Dean Stephen Pachuta said.
Bagby attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, where he earned a B.A. in Biology and Chemistry. He received his D.D.S. from Chicago College of Dental Surgery, Loyola University. A veteran instructor of more than 40 years on dental materials, he also earned master’s and doctorate degrees in biological materials from Northwestern University in Chicago.
