Airflow testing and balancing survey to begin Oct. 13

As part of the design process for our School of Dentistry Phase 2 and Student Clinic projects, a consultant will be performing a Pre-TAB (Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing) Survey within these renovation areas beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 13. This testing is focused on airflow in the spaces.

The faculty and staff office spaces in the proposed new clinic space will be the primary area of focus during the daytime testing.

The survey work within the future Phase 2 footprint will be conducted during normal business hours. Survey activities within the Student Clinic footprint will be performed after hours, beginning at approximately 5:30 p.m.

This work is expected to take approximately 5 to 7 business days to complete. Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions to building occupants while the survey is underway.

During the survey, occupants can expect the following activities:

  • Technicians will walk through offices, conference rooms, corridors, and support spaces to review air supply and return devices.
  • Mechanical rooms, fan rooms, and ceiling spaces may be accessed to inspect HVAC equipment, dampers, filters, and control components.
  • Air handlers, exhaust fans, and other HVAC equipment may be temporarily started, stopped, or adjusted for testing purposes.
  • Technicians may use handheld instruments to measure airflow, temperature, and pressure at air diffusers and grilles.
  • Ceiling tiles may be temporarily removed to inspect ductwork, dampers, and terminal units located above the ceiling.
  • Minor adjustments may be made to system components to confirm proper operation.
  • Occupants may notice temporary changes in airflow, room temperature, or background noise while testing is being performed.
  • No significant disruption to normal office operations is anticipated, although technicians may briefly need access to occupied workspaces.

Thank you for your support of and cooperation with this testing survey.
