WVU CED graduate training opportunity
The WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED) seeks a graduate student trainee to support the Paths for Parents (P4P) Project, which provides outreach, education, and resources to children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and their families across West Virginia. This paid traineeship offers student-mentored, hands-on learning experiences in family-centered care, evidence-based education, and the systems that support children and youth with special health care needs.
This position is ideal for graduate students enrolled in disciplines that focus on pediatric health, disability, family engagement, and/or interprofessional practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of accessible, evidence-based educational resources for parents/guardians of CYSHCN (online and written).
- Conduct literature reviews on evidence-based approaches to support families of CYSHCN, including autism-focused training models.
- Engage in a variety of observational and experiential learning opportunities to gain exposure to the systems, programs, and partnerships that serve children and youth with special health care needs.
Eligibility
- Current WVU graduate student (master’s or doctoral; Morgantown campus)
- Preferred disciplines: Medicine, Dentistry, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Speech-Language Pathology
- Students in related disciplines (e.g., public health, education, health policy) may also be considered
- Strong interest in CYSHCN, disability, or family engagement
Position Details
- Type: Paid graduate traineeship (may also fulfill practicum or field placement requirements, depending on program)
- Time Commitment: Approximately 10–20 hours/week (flexible)
- Duration: One academic semester (with possible extension)
- Supervision: WVU CED staff with expertise in CYSHCN
