Rural health student groups hosting holiday drive
Project REACH (Rural Education Alliance for Community Health) and the Rural Health Interest Group of the WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health are hosting a holiday drive through Dec. 8 to benefit the Preston County food bank and Wellspring of Greenbrier.
The groups are collecting shampoo, conditioner, hairbrushes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, mouthwash, deodorant, bar soap, body wash, cotton swabs, shaving cream, aftershave, disposable wipes, sanitary napkins, tampons, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, vegetable and fruit seeds, and toys for children up to age 18.
Items can be dropped off in the donation bin located in the hallway behind Jazzman’s on the first floor in Health Science Center – North.
Project REACH is a student-run group that aims to serve and educate West Virginians across the state about healthy living. Health professions students from diverse disciplines travel to events across the state, with emphasis on rural and underserved areas, to provide health information about topics such as nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation, diabetes education and oral hygiene including blood pressure screenings and self-exams.
The Rural Health Interest Group is a student-organized interdisciplinary group that meets once a month to learn about and discuss rural health issues, rural practice and recruitment.
