Martinez speaks at GlycoRNA and Cell Surface RNA Biology Symposium

Ivan Martinez, Ph.D., an associate professor in the WVU School of Medicine Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Cell Biology, was a speaker at the 1st Annual GlycoRNA and Cell Surface RNA Biology Symposium at The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Martinez gave a presentation on his project, "Characterizing the Molecular Functions of GlycoRNAs in HPV-Related Head and Neck Cancers.” The project has been developed in Martinez’s laboratory by Travis Rawson, a doctoral student in the Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis program, with help from Isabella Wilkerson, an undergraduate student in the Immunology and Medical Microbiology program.

The event brought together scientists to explore the rapidly expanding field of glycoRNAs and cell surface RNA biology.

Funding for Martinez’s research is provided by the WVU Cancer Institute’s Spark Pilot Award.
