Delta Omega: Fall 2022 at a Glance
Since the Fall semester of 2020, Delta Omega has offered socially distant events and volunteer opportunities. This has increased participation in Delta Omega events, and increased hours spent volunteering. This movement toward remote offerings not only made it safe for all students to participate in community service opportunities, but it also increased student engagement far beyond that of past years.
Clay's Purpose — December 2022
I recently spent time with Mia, a fourth-year medical student in the School of Medicine’s Culinary and Lifestyle Medicine Track, and President Gee getting ready for the holiday season. Mia taught us how to prepare a homemade granola recipe that can be personalized with your favorite ingredients. The recipe is easy and healthy, and it’s perfect as a snack or as a topping for Greek yogurt. Mia explained that she loves this recipe because you know every ingredient and you can customize it to include what you like. It also makes for a great gift to give during the holidays.
Longtime healthcare leader inducted into honor society for health administration
J. Thomas “Tom” Jones, former president and CEO of the West Virginia University Health System, was recently inducted as an honorary member into Upsilon Phi Delta, the national honor society for health administration. The recognition was facilitated by the West Virginia University School of Public Health following Jones’ guest lecture during the Master of Health Administration professional development seminar.
Gov. Justice announces DHHR secretary and advisory roles for WVU leaders
Gov. Jim Justice named Dr. Jeff Coben interim secretary of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, effective Dec. 12, 2022. Coben assumes the role formerly held by Bill Crouch who announced his retirement effective Dec. 31, 2022. Crouch will remain at DHHR as an advisor until that date.
WVU commencement ceremonies set for Dec. 17, musical pioneer and special education teacher to receive honorary degrees
In gold and blue caps and gowns, more than 2,600 West Virginia University graduates will celebrate their accomplishments during two December commencement ceremonies.

Students and faculty from the WVU School of Public Health’s Master of Health Administration and B.S. in Health Services Management and Leadership programs gained valuable experience and connections during the 2022 Annual Meeting of West Virginia Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (WV ACHE) in Charleston, W.Va.
