On Friday, April 1, members of the West Virginia University School of Medicine classes of 2016 and 2017, as well as several medical residents and faculty, were inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

rHeART trial shows improvement in rural community cardiovascular health
A recent West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute funded pilot study has produced encouraging results in the improvement of heart and blood vessel health in rural communities, along with showing a change in participant healthy lifestyle behavior. The rHeART study also supports community-based approaches as effective ways to address local-level health behavior change.

WVU Injury Control Research Center Award Nominations Open
As part of our mission, the Education and Training Core of the West Virginia University Injury Control Research Center would like to recognize excellence in teaching injury and violence prevention among our faculty as well as excellence in injury and violence research among our students. To that end, we are opening nominations for three different awards, each described below.
School of Medicine student wins Pat Fedeles Award for Compassion
The tenth winner of the Patricia “Pat” Fedeles Award for Compassion in Physical Diagnosis was presented to Rebecca Brown on March 22, 2016. This award is presented to a second year medical student who portrays ongoing compassion, friendliness, and an overall caring attitude toward patients, peers, faculty, and staff.
Health Sciences Innovation Center to open doors April 7
Students, faculty and staff are invited to join in the launch of West Virginia University's new Health Sciences Innovation Center, part of the Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute. The opening will be held Thursday, April 7 at 4:30 p.m. at the Neurosciences Institute building.
WVU School of Medicine students received white coats March 19
The School of Medicine recently held its annual John W. Traubert White Coat Ceremony, during which the 110 students in the class were presented with their white coats.
