McAllister leads system-wide telehealth efforts

Shannon McAllister has been appointed executive dIrector of telehealth at WVU Medicine. In this newly created position, McAllister will coordinate telehealth efforts across system hospitals and providers, and continue to expand virtual care offerings throughout the state.

School of Medicine names new WV STEPS director and graduate medical education assistant dean

Dorian Williams, M.D., professor in the Department of Family Medicine and medical director of the Clinical and Pharmacologic Research Center has been named assistant dean for simulation and technology in education in the School of Medicine and medical director of the WV STEPS David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety. Dr. Williams replaces David Wilks, M.D., who will be retiring in June.

Ruby Memorial practices the ABCs of intensive care

Among the 6 million adults admitted annually to intensive care units across the United States, 60 to 80 percent will have some form of functional or physical disability afterwards. In a recent study, 48 percent of adults had not returned to work within a year of their critical illness. A new initiative at WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital is aimed at reversing that trend.
