Wilks named interim director of interprofessional education (IPE) for health sciences
David Wilks, M.D., professor emeritus and former assistant dean for technology in medical education and former medical director of the David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety, WV STEPS Center, will assume the position of interim director of interprofessional education for health sciences.
Call for posters: WVU’s 42nd Hal Wanger Family Medicine Conference
The 42nd Hal Wanger Family Medicine Conference is scheduled for September 29-30, 2016, in Morgantown, W.Va. In conjunction with the conference, the department is soliciting poster presentations for the poster portion of the conference.
Crocco named to new position with WVU’s Clinical and Pharmacologic Research Center
Todd Crocco, M.D., has been named as the new medical director and principal investigator for WVU’s CPRC, effective August 1, 2016.
Department of Otolaryngology holds annual alumni conference; names awards
Stilianos Kountakis, M.D., Ph.D., served as the Philip M. Sprinkle Lectureship speaker for the WVU School of Medicine's Otolaryngology Alumni Conference that took place in June. Dr. Kountakis is the Porubsky Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Augusta University, Augusta, Ga. He is a recognized international authority on diseases of the sinuses and skull base.
Eye Institute offering contact lens fittings to employees
WVU Medicine's Eye Institute is now offering contact lens fittings to WVU Medicine and Health Sciences Center employees. Appointments will be available Monday and Friday afternoons.

The WVU Medicine rural nephrology program recently provided its 50,000th patient visit. The program offers treatment and risk management for kidney disease at 11 outreach clinics around the state and one in western Maryland.

Four-year-old Mamet had a congenital cleft of the lip, nose, and left side of his face. His parents had kept him inside his home in Bangladesh throughout most of his life. They did not allow him to interact with other children because they feared the stigma of his misshapen face.
