WVU addresses addiction crisis with novel ultrasound treatment
On the heels of the country’s deadliest year for drug overdoses, the West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute launched a first-in-the-world clinical trial to investigate the use of focused ultrasound technology to treat those with opioid use disorder. The procedure marks the potential for a new innovative treatment for addiction.
WVU launches text service to reinforce safe choices, curb binge drinking
Students at West Virginia University can now receive adaptive text messages encouraging them to make safer choices about alcohol use by questioning how likely they are to have more than four drinks at any single occasion, how they are prepared to handle peer pressure and if they are willing to set a goal to drink less.
WVU Cancer in the News: The Little State That Could: How West Virginia Became a National Model for COVID-19 Vaccination
West Virginia officials collaborated with the state's three large health systems to design a customized COVID vaccination plan. The state leveraged its network of over 250 local pharmacies to efficiently distribute COVID vaccines. Partnerships with the National Guard and other stakeholders have been key to the plan's success.
