NIH awards WVU $1.8 million to widen health options for children
Seriously ill children across West Virginia will have easier access to new medical treatments in their own communities, thanks to a four-year, $1.8 million grant awarded to West Virginia University today by the National Institutes of Health.
WVU School of Medicine student named Pisacano Scholar
Darrin Nichols, a fourth-year West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine student, has been named a 2016 Pisacano Scholar by the American Board of Family Medicine. It is a prestigious award given annually to only five medical students across the country.
WVU School of Medicine receives $30,000 award from WVSMAA
The West Virginia State Medical Association Alliance (WVSMAA) has donated $90,000 to each of the three medical schools in the state to help provide scholarships for new medical students in West Virginia. The Alliance is a membership organization comprised of physicians' spouses. WVSMAA has held numerous fundraisers over the years for a variety of healthcare related projects throughout the state, primarily focusing on women's and children's health issues.
WVU Telepsychiatry program receives $1.2 million to partner with school-based health centers
West Virginia University’s Telepsychiatry Program received a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) which awarded a total of nearly $1.2 million over the course of four years to collaborate with rural school-based health centers focusing on pediatric mental and physical health care in Barbour, McDowell and Pocahontas counties and a community-based organization, Power House, in Wyoming county.
WVU’s Women on Wellness retreat set for Sept. 24 in Marion County
The annual Marion County Women on Wellness (WOW) retreat, in partnership with the Mannington WOW Community Partnership planning committee and National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health at West Virginia University, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Health Sciences researchers work published in Nature Microbiology
Two WVU Health Sciences researchers recently had their work published online in Nature Microbiology, a scientific journal that publishes exceptional research from across the field of microbiology. The manuscript is entitled “Spirochaete flagella hook proteins self-catalyse a lysinoalanine covalent crosslink for motility.”
