Under the Dome is an update on actions and activities of the West Virginia Legislature, provided during the regular legislative session, interim sessions and special sessions for West Virginia University faculty and staff by WVU’s Office of State and Local Relations. This issue provides a review of the governor’s State of the State address, the first week of regular session, legislative budget hearings and recent vacancies and appointments.
WVU neurosurgeon and football team physician leaves lasting impact on community, honored with major gift
G. Robert “Bob” Nugent, M.D., one of the nation’s most respected neurosurgeons and a former physician for West Virginia University’s football team, spent 43 seasons tending to the medical needs of Mountaineer football players and was one of the first neurosurgeons to treat patients in what was then the new University Hospital, now the WVU Health Sciences Center.

George Sokos, D.O., and Partho Sengupta, M.D., have been named directors at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute – Dr. Sokos of advanced heart failure and Dr. Sengupta of cardiovascular imaging.
