School of Medicine to celebrate WVU's 150th anniversary

The School of Medicine will be commemorating WVU’s 150th birthday during the week of April 3-7, with a Gold and Blue Day honored across all SOM campuses on April 5; buttons, stickers and balloons will be distributed to students throughout the week; and, flying “WV” cookies will be provided to School of Medicine students on Friday, April 7.

Thomas H. Covey Jr., M.D. Visiting Professor: John I. Lew, M.D.

John I. Lew, M.D., associate professor of surgery and division chief of endocrine surgery in the DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine will be the Thomas H. Covey Jr., M.D. Visiting Professor Lecture for the Department of Surgery on Wed., March 29, 8 a.m. in Okey Patteson audit, Health Sciences Center. His topic will be "Surgical Treatment of Primary Hyperparathyroidism: Evolution from Form to Function." 

WVU School of Medicine students received white coats March 18

The members of the West Virginia University School of Medicine Class of 2019 donned the most significant symbol of their chosen profession – the white coat – for the first time on March 18 at the annual John W. Traubert White Coat Ceremony, during which 100 students in the class were presented with their white coats.

Behavioral Medicine Grand Rounds features addiction specialist

WVU's Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry will host Grand Rounds featuring Scott MacDonald, M.D. Dr. McDonald will present on "Health, Heroin and Hydromorphone; The role of injectable treatments to combat the opioid overdose crisis in British Columbia, Canada​​​​" on Wed., Mar. 29, 1 p.m. in G17-Hostler Auditorium of the WVU Health Sciences Center.
