WVU School of Medicine names prominent surgical oncologist as chair of Surgery
James Wallis Marsh Jr., MD, acclaimed surgical oncologist and transplant surgeon, has been named to lead the Department of Surgery in the West Virginia University School of Medicine.
WVU Heart and Vascular Institute surgeons first in the U.S. to place new aortic valve repair device
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – This week, surgeons at the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute became the first in the United States to place the HAART 300 Aortic Annuloplasty Device, an aortic valve repair device invented by Heart and Vascular Institute surgeon J. Scott Rankin, M.D.

Medical student presents at national American Urological Association meeting
Tyler Overholt, WVU second-year medical student, recently presented a poster at the American Urological Association annual meeting in Boston, Mass. Overholt participated in the Initiation to Research Opportunities (INTRO) Summer Research in 2016, and this presentation was the outcome of her work in the program.

ANESTHESIOLOGY Vipul Dhumak, MD joins the Department of Anesthesiology’s Pediatric service. He was formerly an anesthesiology faculty member at the University of Iowa. He completed residency and pediatric anesthesia fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.
WVU School of Medicine inducts students, residents and faculty into Gold Humanism Honor Society
In recognition of their compassion in the practice of medicine, 15 medical students, four residents and two faculty members were inducted into the West Virginia University School of Medicine’s chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Professionals focus on West Virginia health
More than 100 health professionals from across West Virginia gathered today (June 1) in Buckhannon to share information on community approaches to the state’s health issues. The Try This for Health Professionals day was held at West Virginia Wesleyan College, one day ahead of the fourth annual Try This West Virginia conference that will take place Friday and Saturday.
