WVU in the News: Successful WVU STEM Mentoring Program Heads to Alabama

The West Virginian Health Sciences and Technology Academy, known as HSTA, is a mentoring program housed at West Virginia University. It helps participating students succeed in science, technology, engineering and math-based undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Now, that program is going on the road. The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing in Tuscaloosa, Alabama has received a $1.2 million Science Education Partnership Award from the National Institutes of Health to set up a HSTA program there over the next five years.

WVU to house first orthopedic physical therapy residency program

West Virginia University’s School of Medicine has received candidacy status for the state’s first full-time, onsite post-professional residency in Orthopedic physical therapy. Candidacy is the first step towards full accreditation, allowing the program to bring on its first resident in August 2021.

Photography has resumed at HSC Studio

Photographers will be available at the Health Sciences Studio on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Construction is ongoing at Health Sciences, but individuals can still safely access the photo studio, located at G290 in Health Sciences South.

EyeSi surgery simulator offers unique training opportunity for WVU residents

Cataract surgery requires a delicate hand and years of practice to perfect, but a simulated surgical experience offered to residents at the West Virginia University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is helping the next generation of surgeons refine these skills before taking their patients to the operating room.
