WVU medical students received white coats March 17

The 105 members of the West Virginia University School of Medicine Class of 2020 medical students donned the most significant symbol of their chosen profession – the white coat – for the first time on Saturday, March 17.

WVU medical students selected for residency training

On Friday, March 16, the West Virginia University School of Medicine celebrated Match Day with the class of 2018 medical students on all three medical school campus locations in Morgantown, Charleston and Martinsburg. On Match Day, medical students and graduates from the United States and around the world learn in which U.S. residency programs they will train for the next three to seven years.

WVU Match Day ceremony streaming live today

It's Match Day at WVU -- the day our medical students find out where they have “matched” for their residency training out of a range of locations for which they have applied. Students receive notice of their residency matches beginning at noon, and the ceremony will be streamed live!

Rally builds excitement for Relay

WVU Cancer Institute and WVU Medicine faculty, staff and students are gearing up for the 2018 American Cancer Society Monongalia County Relay For Life in June. During a Relay rally this past Friday in the Cancer Center Atrium, Cancer Institute Director Rich Goldberg, MD, told rally participants that the Cancer Institute has had a great relationship with the American Cancer Society over the years. “The ACS has provided services to our patients and funding to support our cancer research,” Dr. Goldberg said. He urged rally participants to join him in walking around the track at the Relay on June 8-9 at Westwood Middle School in Morgantown and asked that they recruit others to participate. Mary Lough of the ACS presented Dr. Goldberg a crystal award for the Cancer Institute’s presenting sponsorship of last year’s Relay. Roger Williams and Lisa Keller of the inpatient pharmacy at Ruby Memorial received a ruby slippers award from Relay For Life Event Ambassador Dave Staten. Their Ruby Slippers team raised $5,000 for the 2017 Relay, the most raised by any Relay team in Monongalia County.

Under the Dome is an update on actions and activities of the West Virginia Legislature, provided during the regular legislative session, interim sessions and special sessions for West Virginia University faculty and staff by WVU’s Office of State and Local Relations. 

Scatterday to lead Health Sciences communications

Bill Case, long-time health sciences communications director, has entered the University's phased retirement plan. Case is a member of the WVU University Relations leadership team and managed the staff responsible for internal and external communications across health sciences. His new role will include working on advancing national recognition for WVU Health Sciences and its leadership teams. He began his career at the University in 1985 as a writer and editor in what is now the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design. Since then, he has served in a number of communications positions for WVU and University Health Associates, and one year as communications director for former West Virginia Governor Bob Wise.
