Blue & Gold Mine Sale at Milan Puskar Stadium Planned For Saturday
WVU and the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties invites the public to their 14th annual Blue & Gold Mine Sale at the East Concourse of the Milan Puskar Stadium (May 12) from 7 a.m. to noon. All proceeds from this large rummage sale will benefit United Way. The early bird admission is $5 (7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.) and free admission will begin at 8:30 a.m. Shoppers will have the option of purchasing a custom reusable bag to fit as many items as the bag will hold for one flat rate of $20. Of the Mindful Physician, an organization for medical students focusing on the impact that arts and humanities have on healthcare, is hosting a community event discussing the use of dance to enhance functional outcomes in patients with disorders that affect movement.
Global health rotations provide health sciences students with international experience
Every year, teams from West Virginia University’s Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health and Pharmacy participate in clinical rotations at locations across the world. Many rotations are coordinated by WVU’s Global Health Program, under the leadership of Melanie A. Fisher, M.D., M.Sc.
Cancer Institute shares success of lung cancer programs in West Virginia at national summit
The WVU Cancer Institute is making progress in combatting West Virginia’s lung cancer problem and recently attended the annual Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation Grantee Summit. The Summit, held in Charleston, South Carolina, was a venue to share the impact of Cancer Prevention & Control’s lung cancer screening and survivorship programs. The WV Lung Cancer Project, funded by the Patient Advocate Foundation, aims to increase lung cancer screening, particularly among low-income and limited resourced individuals across WV. It was highlighted in an oral presentation by our partner, Shonta Chambers. The Bridge Program seeks to improve the coordination of care and decrease the consequences of lung cancer treatment for patients in the mountain state. Abby Starkey, MS, of Cancer Prevention and Control and Adrienne Duckworth, MSN, of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center presented a poster highlighting its success. It has served 40 patients and identified more than 100 unmet needs of lung cancer survivors who have completed treatment. The program has also referred patients to more than 70 community resources, social services, and other health care providers.
Last chance to donate items to the Blue & Gold Mine Sale
WVU and the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties remind faculty, staff, and students to drop off donations for the Blue & Gold Mine Sale by May 9th. Collection boxes have been placed in each residence hall in addition to four outdoor donation stations around Morgantown at Chateau Royale, the top of Falling Run Road, Seneca Center, and Grant Street. Items like furniture, home décor, kitchenware, clothing and electronics are welcome, however mattresses, box springs, CRT televisions and computer monitors will not be accepted. Rondalyn Whitney receives 2018 AOTF Virginia Scardina Award of Excellence
The 2018 American Occupational Therapy Foundation award winners received their awards at the AOTA/AOTF Awards Ceremony at the American Occupational Therapy Association Annual Conference in Salt Lake City on April 21. Every year, AOTF bestows awards and honors to individuals, agencies, businesses and /or other organizations that contribute time, energy, and support to the fulfillment of the mission, goals, and objectives of AOTF. The awards are presented at the AOTA/AOTF Awards Ceremony at the AOTA Annual Conference each year.
