WVU School of Medicine announces new physician assistant program, names director
To meet growing healthcare needs locally and statewide, the West Virginia University School of Medicine is launching a new physician assistant education program. The program will begin accepting students in January 2020 and is comprised of four semesters of classroom instruction, followed by a full year of clinical training.

The West Virginia University School of Medicine recently welcomed a new class of 142 resident physicians to the graduate medical education program.
Ruby cafeteria Fitness Pod will close after June 25
The New fitness center is currently under construction and will open on the fourth floor of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute on Wednesday, July 18.
June edition of Young Physicians Newsletter available
The Young Physician Newsletter of the West Virginia State Medical Association has published the June edition of the YPSgram, a bimonthly newsletter targeted to physicians in training and those early in their career. The June edition of the YPSgram covers the topic of hospital and physician alignment.
Gibson selected as an Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Fellow
Laura F. Gibson, Ph.D., senior associate vice president for research and graduate education at WVU Health Sciences, has been selected as a fellow in the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program for Women at Drexel University College of Medicine.
Michelle Angeline received the Outstanding Orthopedics Rotator Award
Michelle Angeline received the Outstanding Orthopedics Rotator Award. This is a huge honor for her and our department and she will be presented with a certificate from the Orthopedics department for her hard work and diligence during the orthopedics month.
Patrick Ma lab presents research at ASCO meeting, Xiaoliang Wu wins Merit Award
Patrick Ma, M.D., co-leader of the WVU Cancer Institute Sara Crile Allen & James Frederick Allen Comprehensive Lung Cancer Program and director of the Clinical Lung Cancer Program, and Xiaoliang Wu, M.D., Ph.D., postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Ma’s lab, were featured presenters at the 2018 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Scientific Meeting this June.
WVU Hospitals, Summersville Regional Medical Center enter into management agreement
It has been serving Nicholas County and southern West Virginia since the late 1960s, and includes 105 beds and the county’s only nursing home beds. The hospital employs 500 professional staff.
