This conference has been designed for physicians who have interest in cardiovascular medicine, including specialists in interventional cardiology, advanced heart failure, electrophysiology and imaging diagnostics, as well as fellows, residents, nurses and other healthcare professionals interested in cardiology related diseases and treatments.

WVU MyTravel training demonstration scheduled for Health Sciences community
WVU Health Sciences will offer a training demonstration on the new WVU MyTravel rules. The demo will be held on Thur., Oct. 17 from 9 – 10 a.m. in Fukushima Auditorium (1901) at the Health Sciences Center.

Massulo’s Cleaners and Tailors at WVU Health Sciences will offer spooktacular specials Oct. 1 – 31 on dry cleaning services. All dry cleaning, including shirt laundry, will be 15% off. All household items such as comforters, drapes, duvet covers and table cloths, will be 20% off.
WVU community invited to unveiling of Health Sciences Van Liere sculpture
As the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center continues progress on the Health Sciences Museum, the first sculpture debut takes place Friday, Oct. 4, at the Pylons from 3 – 4 p.m. The sculpture, created by School of Dentistry alumnus Burl Jones, D.D.S., is in honor of Dr. Edward J. Van Liere, commonly referred to as the “Father of the WVU Medical Center.” Van Liere received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and his doctorate degree from the University of Chicago. He was professor and chair of the Department of Physiology before he became dean of the School of Medicine in 1937 through 1960. Van Liere developed the two-year medical school into a four-year accredited program. After WWII, he instituted an accelerated medical curriculum in response to the country’s need for physicians. He was also a consultant to Surgeon General of the United States.

The Department of Otolaryngology faculty and residents attended this years’ academy conference in New Orleans.

The Global Health Program at WVU Health Sciences will sponsor WVU Global Health Week Oct. 14-18 at noon in room 1905 Health Sciences North. Lunch is provided to those who RSVP by Oct. 7.
WVU receives CDC award to curb vaping and opioid abuse, improve health outcomes in West Virginia
West Virginia University’s efforts to address chronic disease and substance abuse prevention, growing concerns related to vaping and youth mental health issues will be bolstered by an award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to fund the West Virginia Prevention Research Center in the School of Public Health.
Berry to open Appalachian Addiction and Prescription Drug Abuse Conference Addiction Conference
Dr. James Berry, medical director of the Chestnut Ridge Center and Inpatient Acute Dual Diagnosis Program, will open the Appalachian Addiction & Prescription Drug Abuse Conference Oct. 17-19 at the Waterfront Marriott in Morgantown.
