Bob Huggins Fish Fry Fundraiser — this special evening will feature sports legends, live music, activities, and special guest Rod Thorn. Proceeds from ticket sales and auctions benefit the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund and Remember the Miners Scholarship Fund.

Public Health represented at national level for medical education
The West Virginia University School of Public Health now has significant input at the national level for graduate medical education. Occupational Medicine Assistant Professor Dr. Jennifer Lultschik and second year resident Dr. Rasika Thondukolam have been appointed to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Occupational Medicine Milestones 2.0 Work Group.

WVU Medicine performs state’s first heart transplant
On Saturday (Nov. 2), Robert Parsons, a 61-year-old male from Chesapeake, Ohio, got a new lease on life when surgeons at the West Virginia University Heart and Vascular Institute and the WVU Medicine Transplant Alliance performed West Virginia’s first heart transplant.
Free MAT waiver training course
A free course is available Jan. 8, 2020, for area healthcare workers, social workers, pharmacists, physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners battling the opioid epidemic.
WVU Rural Health Interest Group Rural Oasis Food Drive 2019
The WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health's Rural Health Interest Group will be collecting nonperishable and toiletry items for the 2019 RHIG Service Learning Project: Rural Oasis Food Drive to support the food banks in Clay County and Mullens.
A Major New Report and Webinar on Public Health Initiatives to Address the Opioid Crisis
On November 1, the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) released the report and recommendations the ASPPH Task Force on Public Health Initiatives to Address the Opioid Crisis, an expert panel that includes WVU School of Medicine Professor Judith Feinberg, MD. The report provides evidence-based recommendations in the following areas: evidence and epidemiology; anti-stigma and harm reduction; primary prevention; access to medications for opioid use disorder; research and evaluation; regulatory and legislative reforms; and changes in industry business practices. The report was also the subject of a viewpoint that was published on Friday by JAMA.

Science Exchange presents Cancer Biologist Rajan Gogna
On Friday, Nov. 15, the WVU Cancer Institute Science Exchange will be featuring Rajan Gogna, PhD, MS, MBA. Gogna is a cancer biologist whose work identifies a way to potentially make tumors more susceptible to chemotherapy.
