Portion of Willowdale Road closed for tree removal
Morgantown Public Works will close Willowdale Road, between Afton Street and Grove Street Feb. 19-21 from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. for removal of a large tree. Motorists will be detoured onto Stewart Street and 705 during the closure.
Orthopaedics' Li will give invited seminar talks at ORS Annual Conference and Florida Atlantic University
Dr. Bingyun Li in the Department of Orthopaedics will give an invited talk on “Nanomedicine for musculoskeletal infection treatment” at a scientific workshop at the Orthopaedic Research Society Annual Conference, February 2020 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Final Call for Submissions to WVU Medical Humanities Magazine "Synapses"
Do you enjoy writing poetry, painting, or photography? Or do you have other artistic hobbies such as jewelry-making, sculpture, pottery, or wood-working? The West Virginia University Department of Neurology would like to showcase your talents in a new art and literary magazine called "Synapses." The name of the magazine is aptly named "Synapses" as a reference to the connections between neurons, just as the goal of the magazine is to promote connections between patients and their medical providers. This project invites medical students, residents, faculty, nurses, clinical associates, technicians, patients, and family members of patients to participate. There is no specific theme but the artwork should be inspired by the interaction between the patient and provider. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis through the end of this week. Everyone published in the magazine will be invited to a special reception at WVU in June 2020, where the magazine will be distributed and the works inside will be celebrated. This project is part of the ACGME Back to Bedside Initiative. The team is led by residents Jessica Frey, Faraze Niazi, and Camila Moreno-Escobar and mentored by faculty Dr. Gauri Pawar and Dr. Eric Seachrist. Hoffmann named vice president of clinical integration for the WVU Health System
The senior executive leadership of WVU Medicine announced today (Feb. 17) the appointment of Stephen Hoffmann, MD, as vice president of clinical integration for the West Virginia University Health System.

WVU Surgeon Awarded Tumor Microenvironment Research Grant
Dr. Margaret Bennewitz and Dr. Brian Boone were each awarded $50,000 to support basic and translational projects focused on tumor microenvironment research that specifically enables acquisition of preliminary data for federal grant applications and cultivates a team of new investigators as Project Leaders for the CoBRE.
WVU Surgery Well Represented at Recent Academic Surgical Congress Meeting
The 15th annual Academic Surgical Congress (ASC) was recently held in Orlando, Florida from February 4-6th. The ASC is the pre-eminent meeting for academic surgical investigators and represents a combined gathering of members from the Association for Academic Surgery and the Society of University Surgeons. Faculty, residents and researchers from the WVU Department of Surgery attended and their contributions are outlined below.
