WVU Emergency Medicine proudly introduces the class of 2023
Even in the wake of this national COVID-19 crisis, WVU Emergency Medicine enthusiastically welcomes its new Emergency Medicine Residency Class—the Class of 2023. Although we had to forego our typical group gathering and live “in-person” reveal, we celebrated the reveal of our new class of 10 residents on 3/20/20 with a Zoom reveal with our group and a Zoom chat with our new resident colleagues later that afternoon. After screening nearly 800 applications and interviewing approximately 190 applicants, we have welcomed the perfect 10 EM applicants to join our WVU Emergency Medicine family. The Residency Leadership Team is very appreciative of our current group of EM residents and faculty members that worked so diligently to recruit this amazing new class.
Moving your classes online? Here’s what you should know
The COVID-19 pandemic has shuttered classrooms from P-12 schools to the nation’s top universities and forced educators to quickly adapt instruction to the virtual realm. Online learning experts - William Beasley, Ugur Kale and Jiangmei Yuan - offer the following advice for educators who may now be online instructors for the first time. Paige McCaleb wins PDCI Pat Fedeles Award
The winner of this year’s Patricia “Pat” Fedeles Award for Compassion in Physical Diagnosis was presented to Paige McCaleb on March 17, 2020. This award is presented to a second-year medical student who portrays ongoing compassion, friendliness, and an overall caring attitude toward patients, peers, faculty and staff.
Update: Starbucks cuts back hours
Starbucks in the lobby of J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital has cut back its hours because of COVID-19 concerns. It is open every day from 5:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. until further notice. Also, Starbucks does not have a seating area available. Starbucks will operate as a "grab-n-go" operation for an indefinite period.
WVU Medicine implements no visitor policy at all hospitals and outpatient clinics
WVU Medicine will implement a no-visitor policy at 8 a.m. tomorrow (March 23) at all of its hospitals and outpatient clinics.
Guidance on Labs from Vice President for Research
In light of the continued concerns around the coronavirus COVID-19 and minimizing community spread, the University is asking everyone to drive down their lab work to absolute minimal presence by close of business on Thursday, March 19, only to allow for instrumentation maintenance, cell/animal lines.
Several Health Sciences exterior entrances locked indefinitely
Several exterior entrances at the WVU Health Sciences Center will be closed to the public and locked.
WVU Medicine to defer all elective, non-emergent surgeries and GI procedures
At the urging of the U.S. Surgeon General and multiple professional medical societies, WVU Medicine will defer all elective, non-emergent surgeries and gastrointestinal (GI) procedures starting Thursday, March 19, until Friday, May 15.
HSC ITS Work from Home support
HSC Information Technology Services will begin providing all services remotely starting Tuesday, March 17, until further notice.
Employees, patients assigned specific entrance points to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital
Effective Monday, March 15, all employees and providers should only access the hospital through the HVI entrance, the shuttle entrance, or through the back of the hospital (but not the loading dock). All employees must show their badge when entering. A hand sanitizer station will be available at all entry ports.
