WVU in the News: Covid-19 vaccine rollout for ages 12 to 15 is 'better than expected,' health officials say

The rollout of the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for children ages 12 to 15 in the United States has been reminiscent of when those very first Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered late last year, said Dr. Lisa Costello, a pediatrician at West Virginia University Medicine Children's Hospital and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on State Government Affairs.

While there is a well-recognized national shortage of Preventive Medicine (PM) physicians, there is also a marked maldistribution. In a new article in the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice, Drs. Jennifer Lultschik and Christopher Martin describe one approach to address the disparity in PM specialists in practice within rural regions such as Appalachia by supporting a greater number of Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs based within these regions.

Dr. Mary Euler elected APhA Honorary President

Mary L. Euler, PharmD, FAPhA, of Uniontown, PA, has been elected Honorary President for the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) for 2022-23. She is Professor and Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy.
