New residency program will groom the next generation of pharmacist healthcare leaders
WVU Medicine recently launched its PGY-1/PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency to address growing leadership gaps and groom the next generation of pharmacy healthcare administrators. The goal of the two-year program, one of 66 nationwide, is to provide residents with the skills to assume high-level leadership and managerial responsibilities.
Students can feel at home and succeed at WVU through host of support services at start of the new academic year
As students adjust to new norms brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic this semester, both academically and socially, West Virginia University has support services in place for undergraduate students who may have been disproportionately affected by the changes, including students with disabilities, first generation students and others from underrepresented populations. The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the LGBTQ+ Center and Student Support Services/TRIO are some of the many units across campus that are committed to ensuring students feel safe, included and supported as they return to campus this fall.
WVU provides second COVID-19 weekly ‘trends’ report
West Virginia University’s public dashboard, which tracks and compiles COVID-19 information collected during testing across the WVU system, reported 96 positive test results out of 16,046 tests resulted between July 21-Aug. 16. Those positive test results include 92 students and 4 faculty/staff.

WVU Hospitals attained Magnet recognition again in March, a testament to its continued dedication to high-quality nursing practice. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes healthcare organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice.
Living Beyond Cancer web course now available
WEB COURSE The Living Beyond Cancer web course offers four 20-minute modules featuring the most up-to-date information on caring for cancer survivors in a primary care setting. The professional education webinar segments are led by Nicole Stout, DPT, CLT-LANA, FAPTA, from the WVU Cancer Institute’s Cancer Prevention and Control and the WVU School of Medicine’s Division of Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Stout is a renowned healthcare researcher, consultant, educator, and advocate. Topics include: Module 1 – Breast Cancer Survivorship: Monitoring for Late Effects Module 2 – Lung Cancer Survivorship: Monitoring for Late Effects Module 3 – Colorectal Cancer Survivorship: Monitoring for Late Effects Module 4 – Using the NCCN Survivorship Guideline to Support Care for Your Patients After Cancer Treatment
WVU updates, recaps Morgantown Return to Campus information
West Virginia University released updated Return to Campus information today (Aug. 11). A Return to Campus Conversation will also be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13 where senior administrators will continue to answer questions and address concerns.
Ruscello named 2020 awardee of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
Dennis Ruscello, Ph.D., a professor emeritus in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Adjunct Professor of Otolaryngology at West Virginia University received the Award of Honors from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
