West Virginia Social Survey reports on unmet medical needs due to cost and having a primary care provider released
The 2020 West Virginia Social Survey (WVSS), a representative survey of non-institutionalized adults in West Virginia, found that 19% of West Virginians had unmet medical needs in the past year because they could not afford medical care. The WVSS also found that 86% of West Virginian’s report having a primary care provider, although this varies by county with some counties having rates as low as 41%.

Power washing of Gold-South garage to occur starting tomorrow
A construction company will be power washing the Emergency Department's patient/visitor portion of the Gold-South garage (level 3) starting tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 20). WVU Medicine Security will begin blocking off the spaces in this area this evening to help prepare.
WVU Cancer Institute breast care program again rated among the best in the nation
The Comprehensive Breast Care Program at the WVU Cancer Institute has again been granted a full three-year accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. This is the breast care program’s fourth consecutive full accreditation.
Medication disposal protects public health
On Friday, November 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the campus community is invited to stop by the Mountainlair near Hatfield’s to safely dispose of unwanted medications. On Saturday, November 21 from 12:00-4:00 p.m., residence hall students living on the Evansdale campus are invited to leave unwanted medications at the MedSafe kiosk under the Towers canopy.

West Virginia is experiencing an increased number of COVID-19 cases within the state and on WVU’s campuses. This is a reminder that we must remain vigilant in following all public health guidance to stay safe and healthy and to keep the more vulnerable members of our community safe.
WVU to shift undergraduate classes online ahead of holiday break, end of fall semester
Due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases within the state and on West Virginia University’s campuses, including Keyser and Beckley, all undergraduate instruction will move online Nov. 23-24. Some Health Sciences programs will be excluded, and faculty who teach graduate and professional-level courses may determine whether to teach in person on Monday and Tuesday. Students in those programs should check with their instructors.
