The WVU Cancer Institute team, led by Dr. Shyam Thakkar, is the first to use the new FDA-approved 180° C2 Cryoballoon for treating Barrett's esophagus, a precancerous condition. This innovative device enables precise, minimally invasive cryotherapy to freeze and eliminate abnormal cells in the esophagus, reducing cancer risk. The procedure, recently performed on a 71-year-old patient, was successful, allowing him to resume normal activities the next day. WVU Cancer Institute remains committed to leading in cancer prevention and care through advanced technology and patient-focused treatment.
