Online Course Opportunity: Introduction to Substance Abuse Prevention

This course, provided through the WVU Delta Omega Honorary Society, presents a useful context for people new to substance abuse prevention and mental health promotion. Regardless of the settings where participants in this course work or learn, this information will help to prepare to prevent substance abuse and promote wellness. Upon completing this course, participants will be able to define basic terminology related to substance abuse, identify how the history of substance use and prevention in the United States has influenced the field today, explain the impact of substance use on the brain and how addiction occurs, and describe different substances, their effects, and their health risks. This course can be completed within five hours, although the length of time will vary depending on familiarity with the content, learning style and study habits, and competing demands on participants' time. The course can be left at any time, but participants are encouraged to remember the page that they were on so that they can return to it later. The last module "Course Resources" includes additional resources and websites that support substance abuse prevention. Once the assessment and feedback survey at the end of the course is completed, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Download the Certificate as verification that the course is completed. The course will be open until September 30th, 2022. Click here for the informational flyer.
