A group of undergraduate nursing students at the WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus recently formed a new student organization focused on supporting and improving holistic health in southern West Virginia.
Miles for Migraine set for Oct. 14
Miles for Migraine will host its fourth annual 5K run and two-mile walk to benefit the WVU Headache Center at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park in Morgantown. There is also a virtual event, in which participants can walk/run at their own pace and on their own schedule. WVU Medicine is a sponsor.

WVU Nursing Keyser Campus welcomes new OB/GYN manikin
To enhance the educational experience of nursing students, the WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus recently unveiled a new high fidelity manikin. Equipped with a fetus to teach proper prepartum, labor, delivery and postpartum care, as well as clinical situations unrelated to maternity, the manikin will assist students in practicing hands-on patient care in a simulated setting.

Hutter-Thomas named Appalachian Leadership Institute Fellow by Appalachian Regional Commission
The Appalachian Regional Commission has selected Stephanie Hutter-Thomas, Ph.D., to participate in the 2023-24 class of the Appalachian Leadership Institute. Hutter-Thomas is director for the Buprenorphine Implementation Research and Community Health (BIRCH) project in the West Virginia University School of Medicine Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry.

Patient groups who are often underrepresented in healthcare will benefit from increased health disparities training for medical students and residents at the West Virginia University School of Medicine.
