Students invited to the School of Public Health's "Figure It Out Friday" on Feb. 24
“Figure It Out Friday” is a recurring series of 30-60-minute Zoom conversations for public health students at West Virginia University. The overall purpose of “Figure It Out Friday” is to allow successful public health professionals to help our students learn more about current public health issues, career pathways, essential job skills and much more.
Soul food potluck planned to support QTBIPOC students
The LGBTQ+ Center and its campus partners invite QTBIPOC students, faculty and staff to attend this community-building event from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Maple House.
William A. Neal Student Award now accepting applications
To support scholarship and students in the Public Health program at West Virginia University, the Gamma Mu chapter of the Delta Omega Honor society has established an award. The William A. Neal Student Award is intended to enrich the students' experience by providing funding for research, or opportunities for them to participate in community service or other public health initiatives. This funding is limited, but all requests will be reviewed and considered. Funds will be provided based on request, availability and merit.

“Under the Dome” delivers a review of issues members of the West Virginia Legislature are considering. It provides information on matters that affect WVU and higher education, as well as other hot topics being addressed that impact the Mountain State and its citizens.

WVU in the News: School of Public Health student honored as Big 12's Women's Newcomer of the Week
West Virginia University School of Public Health freshman Mia Cheatwood was recognized by the Big 12 Conference as the Women's Newcomer of the Week after WVU Swimming and Diving defeated Iowa State and Northern Iowa on Jan. 21.
Information session on reusable menstrual products offered
The Women’s Resource Center is partnering with GladRags to offer faculty, staff and students the opportunity to learn more about nondisposable menstrual products through various virtual activities, including the Menstrual Cup Module, developed by Tower and students from the public health prevention and intervention course, taught by Assistant Professor Elizabeth Claydon and Associate Professor Danielle Davidov.
WVU in the News: Geographic-Level Disparities Reported in Meeting Physical Activity Guidelines
Christiaan G. Abildso, associate professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the West Virginia University School of Public Health, and colleagues examined the prevalence of meeting the aerobic, muscle-strengthening, and combined aerobic and muscle-strengthening physical activity guidelines during leisure time among adults aged 18 years and older by rural-urban status and U.S. Census Bureau region using National Health Interview Survey 2020 data.

Last week, after moving into the new year and following special celebrations with our loved ones, we were given another opportunity to celebrate and reflect. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, observed annually on the third Monday of January, is not only a time to honor the civil rights leader’s life and legacy.
