HVAC maintenance will temporarily shut down parts of walkway behind Ruby Memorial
A vendor will be working to replace portions of the HVAC units on top of J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. This work will require the temporary closure of the 4 North exit door and a portion of the sidewalk outside The Market at WVU Health Sciences.
Faith Community Nurse leads suicide prevention efforts in McDowell County
During Suicide Prevention Month in September, Melissa Coleman, BSN, RN, led impactful efforts to support youth mental health in her community in McDowell County. As a WVU School of Nursing-trained Faith Community Nurse, Coleman helped organize the Silent Suicide Walk in Iaeger, alongside students from the Riverview High School SADD Club. Together, they helped raise awareness and fostered dialogue around suicide prevention.
Sisters of St. Joseph to support WVU School of Nursing Faith Community Nursing program
The WVU School of Nursing will receive more than $12,000 in funding from the Sisters of St. Joseph Health and Wellness Foundation to support Faith Community Nursing efforts in southern West Virginia.

WVU Health Sciences is hosting Global Health Week from Oct. 6-10, and former White House senior drug policy advisor Rahul Gupta kicked off the event speaking to students and staff on topics related to global health.

Residents and Fellows are welcome to participate in a WVU Medicine system-wide job fair on October 28, 2025. The event will take place in the Bruce McClymonds Conference Room in J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

PUBH 101: Introduction to Public and Community Health is a 3-credit course available to undergraduate students interested in learning more about public and community health. The course will be offered in person on the Downtown Campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2:15 p.m. in Spring 2026.
Matthews honored with Wilks Award for excellence in simulation education
Jessica Matthews, MSN, RN, CNE, a clinical education assistant professor in the West Virginia University School of Nursing, has been named the 2025 recipient of the David H. Wilks Memorial Award for Excellence in Simulation presented by the WV STEPS David and Jo Ann Shaw Center for Simulation Training and Education Patient Safety.
Beckley nursing student experiences HealthNet ride along
WVU School of Nursing Beckley Campus nursing student Peydon Smith recently joined a HealthNet team for a ride along experience. She joined the Base 5 crew and aircraft to observe two interfacility transfers. The crew mentored her through critical care transport teamwork and debriefing back at the Beaver base.
