Hot food vendors to serve lunch on East-West Concourse
Starting Monday, May 9, local food trucks and other temporary hot food vendors will be set up on the East-West Concourse between the Health Sciences Center and Ruby Memorial Hospital to serve lunch over the summer.

Maj. Gen. Richard Thomas, after spending 30 years as a soldier practicing military medicine around the world, retired from the Army Friday, April 29. As Thomas, a three-time graduate of West Virginia University, readied himself to leave the Army he summed up his career with a simple philosophy: It’s all about saving lives and improving readiness.
WVU Medical Laboratory Science program sails through accreditation visit
WVU’s Medical Laboratory Science program recently sailed through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences’ accreditation process with flying colors. The preliminary report showed no citations or concerns and the recommendation for a full, ten-year accreditation status was made to the NAACLS.
Johnstone to serve as interim chair of Anesthesiology
Robert Johnstone, M.D., has been appointed to serve as interim chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, effective July 1. Dr. Johnstone will hold the position until a search is conducted and a new chair is announced.
University Healthcare rebrands cancer program
The name has changed to the WVU Cancer Institute – University Healthcare Regional Cancer Center.
Cerimele named new HR leader for WVU Medicine
She will assume the role of chief human resources officer, with responsibilities for the entirety of the West Virginia University Health System, while also serving as vice president of human resources for WVU Medicine-WVU Hospitals. She will replace Charlotte Bennett, who is retiring in June.
Growth spurt accompanies UTC's first birthday
At age one, UTC is already experiencing a growth spurt: the WVU Medicine Surgery Pavilion, scheduled to open in the summer of 2017, is being built next to UTC.

Every other week, news and information highlighting topics across WVU Health Sciences and WVU Medicine will be shared with School of Medicine faculty and staff via the School of Medicine CONNECTions e-news. E-news articles will link to the new CONNECTions website that displays news, notes, events and videos. The School of Medicine CONNECTions e-news will replace the ELG Update. We plan to publish CONNECTions twice per month, so look for our next issue in mid-May.
Food service plan on fast track; catering options change at HSC
Fresh Hospitality, which operates restaurants at Evansdale Crossing and will be operating the revamped food service at the HSC, is planning a rapid renovation to the Health Sciences Café area on the ground floor of Health Sciences South. The HSC cafeteria will close Friday, May 6.
