School of Medicine’s Pamela Murray receives 2017 Sex Education Champion Award
Pamela Murray, M.D., professor in the School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics, and Julie Downs, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Social and Decision Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University, received the 2017 Sex Education Champion Award during the Center for Sex Education (CSE) national conference held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, December 6 to 9.
School of Medicine’s Division of Exercise Physiology to be under new leadership
Randall W. Bryner, EdD, was recently appointed interim chair for the School of Medicine’s Division of Exercise Physiology. He will oversee the education and undergraduate activities of the program. John M. Hollander, PhD, will serve as interim vice chair with responsibility for research and graduate education, including the PhD program.
Volunteer Musician Program launched at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital
The Volunteer Office at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and the WVU Music Therapy Program have launched a Volunteer Musician Program to bring more music to the hospital’s patients and their loved ones.

Holiday celebration for Health Sciences and WVU Medicine
WVU Medicine and WVU Health Sciences faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the holidays Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 2-4 p.m. at the Market@WVU, located on the ground floor of the WVU Health Sciences Center. (A separate event for night-shift employees is set for Thursday, Dec. 14, from 1-3 a.m. in the Ruby Cafeteria.)
School of Medicine’s Vidas Dumasius selected for fellowship in the American College of Surgeons
Vidas Dumasius , M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, was among 1,827 initiates from around the world who became fellows of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) during the convocation ceremony at the college’s 2017 annual clinical congress in San Diego, California, last month. This year’s class of Initiates was among one of the largest ever admitted into the college.
