“Souper Day” lunch raises more than $500 for Relay
Dozens of WVU Cancer Institute faculty, staff and healthcare providers enjoyed a variety of soups, desserts and beverages this past Friday in the atrium for a worthy cause. The “Souper Day” lunch was organized by the Cancer Crushers, a Cancer Institute team at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center that is fundraising for the American Cancer Society Monongalia County Relay For Life in June.
School of Medicine to host investiture ceremony for Larry Rhodes, M.D.
Larry A. Rhodes, M.D., professor and pediatric cardiologist, has been named the James H. Walker, M.D. Chair in Pediatric Cardiology in the WVU School of Medicine. An investiture ceremony will be held at on April 2 at 3 p.m. in the Pylons Lobby of the WVU Health Sciences Center. A reception will follow.
Boyd and Lewis named WVPBRN co-directors
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Jennifer Boyd, PA-C, clinical coordinator with the West Virginia Primary Care Association and family practice physician’s assistant at the New River Health Association, and William Lewis, M.D., family medicine physician with Harpers Ferry Family Medicine and associate professor at West Virginia University Easter Division, have recently been named co-directors of the West Virginia Practice-Based Research Network (WVPBRN).
Science advocate, author to speak at WVU
Paul A. Offit, M.D., a physician-scientist who is an expert in infectious diseases, immunology, virology and vaccine and the founding director of the Autism Science Foundation, will speak on “Scientific Misadventures: Learning from the Past,” at noon, Friday, March 23 in the Patteson Auditorium at WVU’s Health Sciences Center.

WVU Cancer Institute Director Richard Goldberg, MD, will be the keynote speaker on Sunday, March 18, at the Fight Colorectal Cancer Educational Summit, a three-day event, where colon and rectal cancer survivors, caregivers, and loved ones from all over the US unite to make their voices heard in Washington, DC.

WVU School of Medicine offers new cytopathology fellowship
The West Virginia University School of Medicine announced recently that accreditation was granted for a new fellowship program in cytopathology, the only such fellowship in the state. The fellowship is a one-year program that accepts one fellow per year, and is currently recruiting for a fellow to start in July 2018.

The West Virginia University School of Medicine announced recently that accreditation was granted for a new fellowship program in rheumatology. The fellowship is the only one in the state, and recruitment for the position starts in fall 2018 with an official start day on July 1, 2019.
Of the Mindful Physician host discussion of role of physical, occupational therapy in living with pain
Of the Mindful Physician, an M.D. student organization studying the interaction between medicine and arts and humanities, will host a discussion on the role of physical therapy and occupational therapy in helping patients live with pain on Tuesday, March 22 from 5-6 p.m. in 2118 HSC North.
