WVU in the News: Program Helping Babies, Mothers With Opioid Dependence Receives More Funding
To counter the problem, the West Virginia University Center for Excellence in Disabilities received $1.5 million from the US Department of Health and Human Services to implement services for mothers and babies facing opioid dependence. The money will extend the five-year-old program another three years.

The WVU School of Nursing proudly announces its newest Morgantown student ambassadors, Bella Botero and Ella Tingler. The SON Ambassador Program allows current students the opportunity to connect with prospective nursing students to share their insights and experiences.

In rankings released by U.S. News & World Report, the West Virginia University School of Nursing undergraduate nursing program has again been named one of the top 100 in the nation.
Service to others propels WVU simulation educator’s career
From firefighter to flight paramedic to educator, Russell “Rusty” Doerr has lived a life of service to others. Rusty’s desire to help others started as a young child, growing up as the son of a firefighter, and led him to a career at West Virginia University that spans more than 30 years.
RUSH (Rural Undergraduate Shadowing in Healthcare) Program Application Opens September 15, 2023
The 2023 RUSH application is now open! https://www.hsc.wvu.edu/icrh/students/rush-program/ Please submit full applications by October 15, 2023. Are you an undergraduate student interested in a career in a healthcare profession serving in a rural community? Thinking about medical, dental or nursing school? The WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health RUSH program is a great introduction to practicing in rural communities. Selections will be made by November 15, 2023. Shadow a rural practitioner for a total of 20 hours during specific dates agreed upon by the participating practitioner and the student. Students will receive a participation award of $300 after shadow completion. If you have questions, please email icrh@hsc.wvu.edu
“Healthcare is Human” exhibit opens September 25
