Albeir Y. Mousa, MD, FACS, RPVI, MPH, MBA, professor of vascular surgery at the WVU School of Medicine Charleston campus was honored by students and residents as “Faculty of the Year” for his knowledge and excellence in teaching and the many opportunities he provides for training and growth.
Security officers to be equipped with naloxone to combat drug overdoses
Around 55 WVU Medicine Security Department officers are being trained to use naloxone, a drug that reverses the effects of opiate and opioid drug overdoses.

Mason earns certificate in Health Professions Education
Aaron Mason, M.D., WVU associate professor of Plastic Surgery, has earned a graduate certificate in Health Professions Education from the College of Education and Human Services.
Four-hour class on elderly care available Sept. 30
"Making a Difference – Compassionate Care for the Elderly," a four-hour class featuring multiple speakers with expert knowledge related to the elderly population, is being offered to employees this fall. The course topics include an overview of geriatric nursing, workforce planning, rehab/PT/OT, spiritual care, and cultural diversity, as well as information about geriatric RN certification.
WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute now offering new, non-invasive treatment for movement disorders
The WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute is the only site in West Virginia and one of just 15 sites in the United States utilizing MR-guided focused ultrasound – a new, FDA-approved treatment for essential tremor and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease that requires no exposure to radiation.

Workshop on Collaborative Care August 14
Psychiatrists and primary Care Physicians are in a unique position to help shape mental health care delivery using integrated care approaches. A workshop on applying the collaborative care approach, led by Dr. Mark Duncan is available on August 14, 2019. This workshop provides participants with the practical skills needed to work in collaborative care. WVU Cancer Institute surgeons perform robotic liver infusion pump surgery
Surgeons at the WVU Cancer Institute have performed a robotic assisted surgery to implant a hepatic artery infusion pump to treat a patient with colon cancer that spread to the liver. This is the first the time this surgery has been performed robotically in the state.
