New training program designed for clinical trial leaders in West Virginia
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Clinical researchers across West Virginia have a new resource at their fingertips. In October, the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) is launching the Principal Investigators’ (PI) Academy, which is designed to provide guidance and direction to investigators conducting or planning to conduct clinical trials.
WVU Heart and Vascular Institute first to implement technology for non-invasive detection of heart disease
The WVU Heart and Vascular Institute is the first academic medical center to install Genetesis CardioFlux FAC magnetocardiography (MCG) cardiac imaging technology. The FDA-cleared system measures and displays the signals produced by the heart’s electrical activity without the use of radiation, medications, or exercise, allowing doctors to quickly and accurately diagnose heart disease.

WVU Emergency Medicine provides support to world-class athletes at UCI World Cup
Snowshoe Mountain Resort was home to the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Finals in early September. This event was the first UCI World Cup event in the United States since 2015, so the draw was large, with more than 10,000 attendees and riders from 50 countries coming to the mountains of West Virginia. On hand to care for the athletes and crowd was a team of nurses, residents, advanced practice providers and attending physicians from WVU’s Emergency Medicine department.
Planned power outage for Health Sciences will occur on Sunday, Sept. 22
To accommodate upgrades and repairs to electrical facilities, there will be a planned power outage at Health Sciences on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY Joel Vogt, MD joins the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry. He was formerly an assistant professor of psychiatry at WVU, as well as Chief of Psychiatry and of Community Mental Health & Recovery at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. He has held leadership positions in psychiatry at Moses Cone in Greensboro, NC; Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA; and at Fairmont General Hospital.
WVU HSC celebrates National Postdoc Appreciation Week
Since 2009, the NPA has sponsored National Postdoc Appreciation Day/Week to recognize the significant contributions that postdoctoral scholars make to U.S. research and discovery. WVU HSC will be celebrating the HSC Postdocs on Thursday, September 19th, Noon-1:00 PM, in the hallway behind the Pylons lobby. Everyone is welcome to stop by for scientific posters, pizza and cake.
