Darmelio awarded Don Marsh Scholarship in Healthcare Writing
Sophia Darmelio, a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications at West Virginia University’s Reed College of Media, is the latest Don Marsh Scholarship recipient in Healthcare Writing. The scholarship includes a tuition waiver and a paid graduate assistantship in the University Relations office at the WVU Health Sciences Center.
Medicine Grand Rounds hosts Dr. Gerard Deib

Four WVU physicians elected to UHA board
Four WVU physicians have been elected to two-year terms on the University Health Associates (UHA) Board of Directors. The elected providers are Hannah Hazard-Jenkins, MD, Department of Surgery, and Nathan Lerfald, MD, Department of Medicine. The re-elected providers are Kathy Moffett, MD, Department of Pediatrics, and Alison Wilson, MD, Department of Surgery. They will all serve from July 2021 through June 2023.
Starbucks hours change
Starbucks, located in the lobby of J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, will change its hours of operation to 5:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., beginning Tuesday, May 18.
Two ophthalmology residents to present separate cases for Ophthalmology Grand Rounds
Drs. Ivan Lee and Mustafa Bulbul will be the presenters for the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science Grand Rounds on Wednesday, May 19, at 7 a.m. Dr. Lee will be presenting a case of inherited retinal disease, and Dr. Bulbul will be presenting a case of right facial swelling. The grand rounds presentation will be held over Zoom.
Save the Date: HSC Conversation about Workplace Survey set for June 3
As part of an HSC initiative focused on “COVID-19 Lessons Learned,” a survey was completed focused on HSC faculty and staff workplace design during the past year. In a follow up to the survey, we will hold an HSC conversation on Thursday, June 3 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. to share and discuss these data.
