WVU immunology senior finds passion for discovery through a vision research program
Through an innovative, hands-on summer vision research program supported by the NIH Visual Sciences CoBRE grant at West Virginia University’s School of Medicine, eight undergraduate students from across the U.S. had the opportunity to make new and exciting discoveries about ocular diseases and treatments.
Nursing students can make a difference by volunteering with WV Center for End-of-Life Care
Volunteers can work on data entry or validation for the forms, either on site at the Health Sciences Center in Morgantown or remotely from anywhere with internet access. Schedules for the volunteer hours are highly flexible. Sollenberger is also flexible about the work assignments if a student decides the role that they were assigned is not a good fit for them. Additional hours can also be earned during holidays, semester breaks or during the summer.

School of Medicine employee seeks match for bone marrow transplant
Brian “BJ” Jimmie, an information resources manager for the School of Medicine Alumni Affairs team, is searching for a bone marrow transplant match after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in July of 2022.
WVU to host Prevention Summit
The WVU community is invited to attend the Prevention Summit from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in the Mountainlair Ballrooms. Prevention experts from across the University and Morgantown community will come together to share their work in the area of prevention.

WVU Cancer Institute celebrates mobile lung cancer screening program’s anniversary, recent accolades
LUCAS, a first of its kind, state-of-the-art mobile lung cancer screening unit, performed its first screening on Sept. 14, 2021. A commemorative celebration of the day was held yesterday (Sept. 12) at the WVU Medicine outpatient center at University Town Centre, where the mobile unit is parked when it’s not on the road.

Innovation Challenge accepting applications from all Health Sciences students
The WVU Health Sciences Office of Interprofessional Education is now accepting applications for its Student Innovation Challenge. A pilot project for the 2022-23 academic year, the challenge will provide funding and mentorship for select student-led interprofessional education initiatives.
