My clinical rotations at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital were a huge part of my program, and I loved every minute of them. I got to work alongside seasoned technicians in the lab and learn how to work in the field that I am soon moving into.
What initially sparked your interest in biomedical laboratory diagnostics?
I took a biomedical science class all four years of high school and became very interested in the field. When I found out they had a Medical Laboratory Science program here at WVU, I joined right away, and I’ve fallen in love with it.
Why did you choose to attend WVU and pursue your program here?
I chose to attend WVU because I really love the campus, and I was fascinated by the number of opportunities I found. I chose Medical Laboratory Science because I was interested in the content throughout high school and was excited to learn more about it.
Looking back, how did your time at WVU prepare you for the next step in your career?
The Medical Laboratory Science program here does a great job of preparing you to work in real clinical laboratories by teaching you relevant material and allowing you to gain experience in a real clinical laboratory setting. Aside from the program, my time at WVU has prepared me for my next steps by letting me learn more about myself and the people around me. I’ve learned how to communicate and bond with others while also supporting myself and trusting my intuition and knowledge.
What is one skill or lesson you gained during your time at WVU that you will carry with you?
More than anything else, my time at WVU has taught me that I am capable of anything. I am confident in the knowledge and skills I have gained throughout my time here, and I know I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.
What experience had the biggest impact on you and why?

The experience that I have gained through these rotations is irreplaceable and has provided me with amazing opportunities.
What accomplishment are you most proud of from your time at WVU, and why?
I am proud of the way that I have grown as a person over my time here. The person I was on the first day of freshman year was so different from the person I am at the end of senior year, and I have my experiences and friendships at WVU to thank for that.
How do you hope to make an impact in your career or community moving forward?
I hope to continue gaining knowledge in the medical laboratory field and work every day to help doctors and physicians treat patients so their quality of life may improve.
What advice would you give to incoming or future WVU students?
Have fun! College can be overwhelming and stressful at times, so remember to enjoy your time because it goes by so quickly. Work hard and live your college experience to the fullest!
What is your favorite memory from your time at WVU?
My favorite memories from my time here at WVU include riding the PRT to and from football games, gaining experience in my clinical rotations in Ruby's lab, and growing alongside my friends and classmates as we moved through our program together.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I will be working in the laboratory at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in the hematology and blood bank sections. I’m so excited to learn more about this field and become more skilled in it so that I can help patients every day.
