Why did you want to pursue a career in pharmacy?
What inspired you to choose WVU for your pharmacy education?
Choosing WVU was an easy decision. Growing up in West Virginia fostered a deep bond with the state and a strong desire to give back to my community. During my interview, the genuine kindness and welcoming atmosphere from the faculty and students made it clear that this was where I belonged.
How has your experience at the WVU School of Pharmacy prepared you for your future career?
My experience at the WVU School of Pharmacy has been instrumental in preparing me for my next steps, as I have secured a PGY1/PGY2 residency in Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership at WVU Medicine. Serving as class president provided early exposure to leadership and helped me develop strong skills in communication, advocacy, and collaboration. Additionally, my academic and experiential training strengthened my clinical foundation and problem-solving abilities. Together, these experiences have prepared me to transition into residency and continue growing as a leader in healthcare.
What are some of your favorite memories of pharmacy school?
My favorite part of pharmacy school has been the friendships I’ve built along the way. I’ve had the opportunity to meet incredible individuals who will go on to make meaningful contributions to healthcare across the country. The relationships I’ve formed and the memories we’ve created are something I will always value.
Is there a professor/staff member at the School of Pharmacy who has significantly influenced your journey? How did they make an impact?
It’s difficult to choose just one person, as I’ve been fortunate to have strong support from multiple faculty members. In particular, Dr. Ahmad Hanif and Dr. Ashleigh Barrickman have had a significant impact on my journey. Their mentorship, encouragement and consistent support have played a key role in my development, helping me reach important milestones, including securing my residency.
What is your best advice for incoming P1s?
My best advice is to develop strong time management skills early. Creating and maintaining a structured schedule will help you stay organized, reduce stress, and set yourself up for success throughout pharmacy school.
What 's a fun or surprising fact about you that most people might not know?
A fun fact about me is that I am named after the mosque where my parents were married in Cairo, Egypt.
