Following completion of this web course, participants should be able to:

Diagnose and document obesity in patients
Recognize that obesity is complex and classified as disease by medical associations
Identify prevalence of obesity in WV and US
Describe the spectrum of treatment options for obesity
Set reasonable expectations for weight loss outcomes
Recognize effects of weight bias on patients
Recognize unflattering portrayals in media that drive stigma
Define implicit bias and describe strategies for overcoming it
Non-offensively discuss weight with patients using appropriate terminology
Confidently use “person-first” language
Counsel patients on evidence-based behavior change strategies to help with adherence to lifestyle modifications
Recognize the importance of self-monitoring and stimulus control
Confidently incorporate the basics of Motivational Interviewing
